An Ode to Artisanal Legacy
This inaugural edition of the Master Artisans collection pays tribute to the essential elements of ceramics, and features a striking decanter inspired by the beauty of long-plumed pheasants. The edition reflects Master Artisan Ángel Santos’s vision and craft, as well as the teachings of generations before him, capturing both the timelessness and contemporary relevance of artisanal tradition.
The Story
Master Artisans
In Mexico, artisanship is a living legacy, a language through which history, technique, and imagination are transformed into tangible beauty. Each piece shaped by masterful hands bears witness to a cultural lineage that transcends time.
Our Master Artisans collection celebrates the most exquisite expressions of Mexican folk art through collaborations with the country’s most esteemed artisans, guardians of ancestral practices who reveal the soul of our culture through their work.
The Artisan
Ángel Santos
Ángel Santos is an artisan from Tonalá, Jalisco, known as “the cradle of ceramics” in Mexico. Internationally recognized for his exceptional craftsmanship, his work reflects a deep connection to his country’s ancestral techniques. In addition to his artistic practice, he serves as a teacher and cultural curator, dedicated not only to sharing Mexico’s artisanal legacy, but also to preserving its ceramic traditions by passing them on to new generations.
The Transmission of Craft
In Mexico’s artisan communities, knowledge is passed from master to apprentice from an early age. For this edition, Santos worked closely with Clase Azul artisans in a collaborative, time-intensive process, transmitting his techniques and vision. The result is a refined expression of high-temperature ceramics, where each gesture becomes a dialogue between generations and Tonalá’s living tradition.
Tequila
Curated by Master Distiller Viridiana Tinoco, this exceptional 8-year-old extra añejo tequila began its maturation in American whiskey casks, where it aged for 64 months. It then continued its evolution for 41 months in amontillado, oloroso, and pedro ximénez sherry casks, resulting in a blend of remarkable depth, structure, and complexity.
Tasting Notes
Decanter
The front of the decanter features two long-plumed pheasants rendered in cobalt blue—one at the base and the other encircling the Clase Azul emblem. They are accompanied by five- and six-petaled flowers rooted in Tonalá’s artisanal traditions. These intricate floral and vegetal motifs continue across the back of the piece, enveloping the surface in refined composition.
